Lawley will be a mixed–use community presenting residents with
the opportunity to meet many everyday needs within walking distance from
their homes. The mix of uses will include schools, health care, shops and
recreation facilities, coupled with homes and employment space. A range
of dwelling types and range of tenures will ensure a mixed population and
a diverse range of households in terms of age, income level and family
size.
The frontages on the main street will be designed in such a way as to
allow flexibility of use, so that they can evolve from residential to retail
to commercial uses and back again in their lifetime, as well as live–work
space. It is envisaged that as Lawley grows so the demand for services
will increase and the uses will need to evolve.
The central Lawley Square will provide the focus for commercial, community
and retail uses as well as a location for residential uses. It will present
a focus for the four created communities as well as being central to traffic
from the wider area. The Square will be designed as pedestrian friendly
and there will be a mix of uses through all floors of the buildings. The
ground floor will provide an active frontage whilst residential and commercial
activities will be located above the shops and amenity space.
